In 2016, Nike SB dropped a new Dunk rendition for Pro Skater Ishod Wair. Not many were a fan of the less-padded variation of the Dunk. I, on the other hand, fell in love quickly. I thought this take on the Dunk was clean! Slimmer, sharper and just sleek. I’ve picked up a few pairs since, and one thing I’ve noticed is that the materials used on Ishod’s Dunks are pretty damn great. This Nike SB x SOULLAND Dunk Low is no exception.
Everything about this shoe feels premium. From the upper all the way down to the insole. As minimal as the insoles are, they are a couple of the most well executed insoles I’ve ever seen. They’re a smooth finish with a slight emboss of the logos. Surrounding the insoles are a super soft leather that lines the collar and forms the tongue.
One of my favourite details of this pair is how cleanly branded they are—I’ve just made an incredible (to me) discovery about the pair. They’re currently in my hand while I write this and I was just blown away by SOULLAND’s creativity. The art from the insole connects and continues with the branding that goes down the tongue (under the laces), spelling out “FRI.day” and “SOULLAND”! I’m clearly very excited about this.
The same plush leather from inside the shoe graces the heeltab and toebox as well. The upper is a combination of leather, soft suede and engineered mesh (on the medial and lateral panels for breathability). The subtlest touches make the biggest of differences to this colourway. The royal blue mini Swoosh and the hit of white 3M complete the shoe for me. These smallest of hits just pop. Glad I decided to pick up a pair of these after sleeping on them for weeks.
Now if someone could just PLEASE find me the Dunk Highs of this collab in an 8.5 or 9. Please?
