On Saturday, I was lucky enough to be invited to one of the most incredible events I’ve ever had the pleasure of being a part of. Under Armour Canada partnered with Foot Locker Canada to put on an event at the Air Canada Centre for the launch of Steph Curry’s newest sneaker drop.
The day started with an up-close view of the Golden State Warriors pre-game shoot around prior to their matchup with the Raptors at the ACC. We were given access to court side seats right in front of the Warriors’ bench, which put us mere feet away from the defending champions. We had the opportunity to get an unprecedented look at the likes of Swaggy P, Kevin Durant, and of course, Steph Curry. Sitting this close gave me a new perspective (literally) on the shear skill that Steph possesses; my dude was pulling up from the Raptors logo at centre court and draining 3/4 shots in a row between misses.
Following this already-amazing experience, we were escorted up to a private box, where we were going to watch the game in style; with an open bar, all the food you could eat, and a perfect view of the court. Upon entering the suite, we were all given Steph Curry Under Armour backpacks (so nice… so, so nice), which contained the brand new, Foot Locker Canada exclusive colourway, of the Under Armour Curry 4. The shoes are exclusively available at the Yorkdale and Eaton Centre Foot Locker locations right now, and will be available on Under Armour Canada’s website on February 2nd. If you have a chance, I strongly recommend trying to pick these up. I’ve been itching to hoop in a pair of Currys since the first silhouette released, so expect a full performance review to be up on the site very soon.
Unboxing a brand new pair of sneakers the day before the official drop, inside a private box with unlimited food and drinks, at a Toronto Raptor game, against the defending NBA champions – now that is how I’d like to spend every Saturday night.
Now I don’t want to get in to the details of the game itself, because I’m still sweating and if I start talking about what happened I may punch
another hole a hole in the wall. But although the mood in the private box was not the best following the disappointing result, our hosts had one more surprise in store for us; we were going to be allowed a one-on-one meet and greet with young Raptor star, and Curry 4 aficionado, Delon Wright!
Now I’m not sure if you’ve been keeping up with the Raptors this season, but this young man has been making a huge impact on our team since returning from an injury that saw him miss a large part of the season. He spoke very softly and humbly, asking us where we were from and how we enjoyed the game. He took the time to take pictures and shake hands with the entire group. I’m sure that taking a picture with me was the last thing he wanted to do after the incredibly frustrating finish to the game, but he was patient and kind; I have a newfound respect for the rising star.
All in all, this was one of the coolest and craziest games I’ve ever been to. I can’t thank Under Armour Canada and Foot Locker Canada enough for their hospitality. Keep an eye out for a detailed look at the sneakers and a full performance review on the blog, some time this week.
