For the third straight year, Nike Basketball is taking over Ryerson University’s Kerr Hall on Friday nights to exhibit some of the best talent that the Toronto ball community has to offer.
Crown League is a Nike-run basketball league similar to that of the “Drew League” in the States. Six teams, filled with some of the most crisp talent from around the GTA will battle it out over the course of five weeks to try and claim supremacy in Toronto’s basketball scene.
The games feel like a party. A live DJ spins some bangers while commentators call the game on microphones to hype up the crowd. The atmosphere is electric, and the gameplay is generally extremely competitive and fast-paced. The league is also sanctioned by the NBA, NCAA, and CIS; which means if players from those leagues want to join in on the action, they are more than welcome to do so. And if this year is similar to years past, there will most certainly be some star-studded appearances. This year’s athletes will be sporting the brand spankin’ new KD X. The shoe has gotten stunning performance reviews, so it’ll be awesome to see how they hold up in these gritty games.
In years past, there has been giveaways, and also exclusive product launches such as customized Air Force Ones and tees; so it is definitely worth the price of admission (which is free by the way). Each week on Nike.com/Toronto you’ll be able to reserve a seat via your Nike+ account, but get there early because it fills up real quick. So if you’re looking for something to do before a night out, or a way to unwind from the work week, Crown League is where it’s at.
Be sure to follow us here week to week, as we recap the action. As well as on Instagram (@canadagotsole) for a bit of live coverage.
