This year’s All-Star weekend will not go down as one of the greatest of all time. In 10 years it will not be called a classic, and people will not say “How will we ever top that?” But even without the usual number of drops from Nike Basketball, and even without a dunk contest where participants actually dunk the basketball; we still had some pretty awesome releases.
Shadowed in Saturday’s release of the much anticipated OVO Jordan 12, was Sunday’s release of the Air Jordan 1 ‘Gotta Shine’.
After scrolling through my Instagram feed on Sunday night, I noticed that only a handful of people actually made an effort to grab this shoe, which is unfortunate, because they are arguably a better shoe than the OVO’s.
The first thing everyone wants to know about Jordan 1’s nowadays is “hows the quality?”, and these certainly do not disappoint. Its hard to say if they measure up to the ‘Banned’ release of last year because I haven’t had a chance to get these on feet yet; but at first glances and feels, they’re definitely up there.
Everyone has already seen the amazing finish on the upper panels of the shoe, but for me, it’s the subtle stuff that always gets me. The iridescent finish on the aglets are very eye-popping – especially on the white set of laces. And the sole almost has a pearlized look to it. Which looks awesome for now, but I’ll be interested to see how it looks after a few wears.
All in all, this is definitely going to be a contender for the release of the year for me. If you haven’t had a chance to pick up a pair, I’d start hunting right now if I were you. Check out the rest of the photos below.
